The Notre Dame Radiation Laboratory Machine Shop provides convenient, flexible and cost effective services to the Notre Dame research community for the fabrication, construction, and design of precision research instruments. As a full service shop, we are equipped with:

  • Lathes
  • Grinders
  • Drill Presses
  • Horizontal and vertical saws
  • Welding equipment
  • Computer controlled milling and lathe equipment (CNC).

We specialize in the protyping, designing, and manufacturing of custom tooling. With our state-of-the-art equipment, we are able to produce high quality parts while holding extremely tight tolerances with minimal lead time. From exotic alloys to common 6061 aluminum, we machine all types of materials and specialize in other materials such as plastics, wood products and machinable glass. We will work from hand drawn sketches, prints or just an idea in your head. We can also reverse engineer your existing parts with any alterations you request.

Joe Admave, the NDRL Machine Shop Program Manager, has a total of 19 years experience in precision machining, toolmaking, and CNC programming. He is certified by the United States Department of Labor as a Journeyman Toolmaker.
